Description

This executive desk was designed by ARP (Atelier de Recherche Plastique), a collective founded in October 1954 by French designers Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte, and produced by Minvielle in the 1950s. It stands out for its graphic composition, combining the warmth of wood with the slender lines of a black metal frame, in a style characteristic of post-war modernist furniture.

The rectangular ash top provides a generous work surface, supported by a metal frame with clean, geometric lines. The two storage units, positioned on either side, create an asymmetrical composition that gives the desk its distinctive character. One unit features two drawers, while the other has three. The sides, reinforced with metal cross-bracing, emphasise the functional and architectural quality of the design.

The contrast between the warm tones of the wood and the black metal frame creates an elegant balance between material richness and visual lightness. Both functional and sculptural, this desk reflects a design approach in which simple forms are combined with a considered response to practical needs.

This piece would sit naturally in a home office, bringing a distinctive vintage presence and an authentic touch of 1950s French design.
