Description

This set of six Méribel chairs was designed by Charlotte Perriand and produced by Steph Simon in the 1950s. Originally conceived for the development of the Méribel ski resort, this model reflects the French designer’s timeless, functional approach, characterised by essential forms and natural materials.

The chairs feature ash wood frames with clean, well-balanced lines. The cylindrical legs, turned from solid wood, are reinforced by an X-shaped stretcher that provides stability while creating a distinctive geometric detail. The slightly curved backrests follow the natural line of the back, lending a subtle softness to the overall silhouette.

The combination of ash wood and woven straw seats creates a natural contrast between the warmth of the wood and the texture of the woven fibres. The straightforward construction, carefully judged proportions and attention to detail reflect Charlotte Perriand’s practical sensibility and refined aesthetic.

With their recognisable silhouette and warm, understated character, these six chairs would sit naturally around a dining table, in a country house or within a contemporary interior. They embody the spirit of 1950s French design, where functionality, authentic materials and understated elegance come together with effortless harmony.
