Marcel Breuer chairs model Cesca B32 edition Thonet 1970 set of 6
This set of six Cesca B32 chairs was originally designed in the 1930s by Marcel Breuer, one of the leading figures of the Bauhaus movement, and later produced by Thonet in the 1970s. Considered one of the most iconic pieces of modern design, the Cesca chair perfectly embodies the dialogue between technical innovation and timeless elegance.
The frame, crafted in chromed tubular steel, features a distinctive cantilever base — with no rear legs — which gives the chair its unique character and a surprisingly flexible comfort. The natural cane seat and backrest add lightness and transparency, while the black-lacquered, bent solid beech frame emphasizes the purity of its lines.
When first introduced, the Cesca chair was revolutionary, combining traditional craftsmanship — through the use of hand-woven cane and bentwood — with the industrial aesthetic of steel. This pioneering vision left a profound mark on the history of design and continues to inspire contemporary creations.
An icon of the Bauhaus and of 20th-century design, the Cesca chair is more than just a functional seat: it is a manifesto piece, expressing the avant-garde spirit and pursuit of balance between comfort, simplicity, and modernity.
