Jean Touret tripod stools in oak edition Ateliers Marolles 1960 set of 2
This pair of stools was made by Jean Touret in the 1960s, for the Ateliers Marolles (hot stamping under the seats, see photo). It is composed of 3 feet and a half-moon seat sculpted with a gouge. It has a magnificent patina of time.
Jean Touret's primary goal was to develop pieces with a simple, contemporary, and noble aesthetic while preserving the shapes of rustic furniture. This table is the perfect result! Eager to restore the taste of traditional know-how to the general public, he created: Les Artisans de Marolles, an association of know-how to produce furniture and decorative objects. It will be made up of a carpenter, an ironworker, a basket maker, and a potter and will be expanded 10 years later in view of the great commercial success.
The Marolles furniture was exhibited for the first time at the Château de Blois in 1958 (see the last photo).
