Gio Ponti chair model Superleggera edition Cassina 1980
Italian design icon, the Superleggera (= super light in Italian) was designed by Gio Ponti for Cassina. It is composed of a natural ash structure and backrest as well as a cane seat from India, several versions have been edited by Cassina. The chair is made in an assembly without nail or screw, which allows its to obtain the world record of lightness for a wooden chair with its 1,7 kg. All the subtlety of this chair is in its triangular section base.
This chair is practical and light, it's an ideal chair, can be placed everywhere, fits with everything and takes up little space.
The designer drew inspiration from the traditional furniture of Chiavari to create this famous chair and followed the motto of Mies van der Rohe: "Less is more".
